Job Specifications

The primary function of the Tax Analyst I, Income Tax is to assist the tax team to achieve its objectives, goals, and priorities for all aspects of the income tax process. In this role, you will assist in preparing, reviewing, analyzing, communicating, and reporting all income tax information for internal decision-making, internal and external reporting, and filings. You will support the monitoring of tax legislative activities, analysis, and interpretation of tax legislation, US GAAP and utility tax regulatory guidance and drive digital and analytical transformation.

SALARY RANGE: Determined by the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.

Level I: $52,800 - $79,250
Level II: $63,700 - $95,650
Senior Level: $82,550 - $123,800

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager, Tax

LOCATION: Our Corporate Headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Assist in the preparation, forecast and reporting of the Company's US GAAP income tax provisions, in accordance with IRS, GAAP, SEC, FERC and other regulatory principles.
* Assist in the coordination, data gathering, analysis, communication and timely filing of periodic tax returns and statutory filings.
* Support and maintain effective internal controls and support the preparation of variance analyses and account reconciliations.
* Contribute to compliance with tax laws and regulations related to assignments.
* Research and timely communicate the explanation of tax legislation, rate changes, and rules.
* Drive continuous improvement of tax processes using digital workflows and other tools to automate manual data entry and extractions.
* Support the development of tax policies and initiatives that support and enable business strategies.
* Analyze and reconcile general ledger in preparation and review of tax basis balance sheets and accrual to return calculations.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Drive continuous improvement of tax processes using digital workflows and other tools to automate manual data entry and extractions.
* Sustain Income Tax software programs and facilitate the development of real-time analytical reporting.
* Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Level I:
* No experience required; training provided.
* Bachelor's degree in relevant field, such as Accounting, Finance or Economics required.

Level II:
* Minimum of (2) two years of tax or accounting experience required.
* Bachelor's degree in relevant field, such as Accounting, Finance or Economics or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Senior Level:
* Minimum of (4) four years of tax or accounting experience required.
* Bachelor's degree in relevant field, such as Accounting, Finance or Economics or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
* Technical knowledge of income tax accounting and compliance or high motivation to be an income tax subject matter expert.
* Comfortable with ambiguity, ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and manages to deadlines.
* Proficiency in Microsoft office products, specifically Excel and Power BI.
* Technological agility (i.e., automation tools, process improvements, adoption of new software).
* Ability to develop in-depth knowledge of systems such as PowerPlan and PeopleSoft/Oracle.
* Strong intellectual curiosity that includes analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
* Outstanding interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service, both internal and external.
* Analyze and interpret company financial forecasts and results.
